The Current Situation

As we dive into today’s report, it’s important to note that Playa Del Carmen is currently experiencing improved conditions compared to the same time last year. This August is turning out to be much better in terms of seaweed presence along the coastline.

Exploring Punta Esmeralda

We start our journey at Punta Esmeralda, where I recorded this update. Despite the ongoing heatwave with temperatures reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit every day, the beach is relatively clear. You might even spot vendors selling juicy mangoes seasoned with chumu, a spicy seasoning that enhances its flavor.

Paradise in Paradise

Our next stop is Paradise Beach Resort, where a commendable effort has been made to keep the beach free from seaweed. Although the water appears slightly cloudy, the overall condition is good. Let’s take a moment to appreciate the picturesque view from a bird’s eye perspective.

Playa 88 and Beyond

Moving along, we head towards Playa 88. Although the water is slightly cloudy here as well, it is not overrun by seaweed. The beach maintains a clean appearance with only a thin line of seaweed along the coastline. The water may appear slightly murky due to sand mixing, but overall conditions are satisfactory.

Colosseo and Cocoa Beach

As we continue our journey, we encounter Colosseo Beach, which, compared to last week, appears clearer. The cleaning crew has been working diligently to combat the seaweed issue. The adjacent Reef Cocoa Beach allows us to observe the area from the pier, providing a unique overhead view.

Unveiling Upper Central

Passing Las Hijas and acknowledging Elements and Mandarinos Beach Clubs, we find ourselves at Martina Beach Club. Although today is a scorching hot day, beachgoers still find solace in the inviting water. Kanto Beach Club, located nearby, also boasts clear beach conditions with minimal seaweed presence.

The Crowd at 38th Street Beach

As we arrive at 38th Street Beach, we notice the vibrant atmosphere and the bustling crowd. There is a designated entrance to access the beach. While there is a small amount of seaweed present, it does not detract from the overall experience.

Highlights of Mahekal and Maya

Mahekal Beach Club, our next destination, stands out as one of the top spots in Playa Del Carmen. With its inclusive amenities and prime location, it offers a delightful beach experience. Similarly, Maya Beach Club showcases improved conditions, although there is a slight presence of seaweed in the water.

Observing the Grand Hyatt and Hilton

The Grand Hyatt is our next stop, where the presence of a beach is a notable achievement. Typically, there is no visible beach due to higher tides. However, today, beach chairs are placed strategically to make the most of the available space. We then visit the Hilton, where the clear water allows us to see the reefs and rocks beneath the surface.

Lower Central Beaches

As we explore the lower central area, we pass by Zenzi Beach before reaching El Faro. The whole area is gradually becoming lighter, indicating improved seaweed conditions compared to previous weeks. Pelicanos Beach and Playa Fundadores also showcase noticeable improvement.

Concluding Thoughts

As we approach the end of our journey, both NT Beach and Sunset Beach Clubs offer an optimistic outlook. Despite some seaweed present, efforts by the municipality of Playa Del Carmen to maintain a clean beach line have been successful. Playa Del Carmen Phase 1 and Phase 2 also demonstrate improvement, with Phase 1 showing better conditions this week. Although the seaweed season is typically worse in August, the efforts put in have yielded positive results.

Conclusion

The current state of Playa Del Carmen’s beaches indicates a significant improvement compared to previous years. While there is still some presence of seaweed, it is not as severe as it has been in the past. The efforts made by local authorities and beach resorts in cleaning up the coastline deserve recognition.
